Hospital Visit

Many of you know that once you are under the care of Hospice you do not go for doctor's visits or typically make trips to the hospital. However, this morning was an exception. Daddy's chest tube fell out - completely out of his lung. We called the ambulance and they transported him to Johnston Memorial where they had to reinsert the tube. This procedure was extremely painful for him. He is "knocked out" from all the pain meds, but seems to be resting comfortably.

As soon as they inserted the tube, the ambulance brought him back home. The hospice nurse has increased his morphine level to try to keep him comfortable. She feels that there is a lot of infection in his lung, the area around the chest tube and that it has entered the blood stream. This means that his organs will start shutting down. His pulse rate has been over 150 all day and his blood pressure is low. Not sure how long he WILL hang on like this. I think we all that Daddy is a fighter. I'll let you know if there are any changes...
